The youngest son of a large farming family in Normandy, Sebastian has found that it is good to be quick and clever, not only to get out of doing farm work, but also to get an upper hand on his older brothers and sisters. And while his parents do admit that Sebastian does have a good heart, they will be the first to say that their son has a penchant of getting himself into situations — though, luckily, does also have ways to somehow get himself out of them as well.
Sebastian happened to be skipping out on work again one day, instead finding himself playing with some other children in the village. A priest happened to stop by to give a firey speech on God, as well as his needs for heroes to march into the Holy Land and protect all of Christendom. Inspired by both this speech, as well as the stories that he had heard of the previous Crusade, Sebastian wasted no time deciding that it was his destiny to help fight the good fight for the Holy Land, no matter how.
He slipped off with a few belongings during the night without saying goodbye, in case somebody had tried to stop him from leaving. His family only found out a few days later from a friend of his who was also there in the town square that day. By then, he could have been anywhere, and they simply prayed that God would keep an eye on their troublesome boy and guide him safely wherever he had chosen to go.
